Why Credentials Matter
Carpet and upholstery cleaning isn’t a regulated industry. Anyone can buy a machine, print some leaflets and call themselves a professional.
Over the years, I’ve invested heavily in proper training and recognised accreditations — not to collect badges, but because I’ve seen first-hand what happens when carpets are cleaned incorrectly. Shrunken carpets. Colour loss. Over-wetting. Warranties voided.
Personal pride has always mattered to me. I’ve always wanted JL Carpet Cleaning to be the best we can be across Telford, Shrewsbury and the wider Shropshire area — not the biggest, just the most competent and dependable.
The credentials below aren’t there for show. They exist to protect our customers.

WoolSafe Service Provider
WoolSafe approval means:
- Cleaning solutions are tested and safe for wool
- Methods are appropriate for delicate natural fibres
- Work is carried out to recognised standards
If you’ve invested in quality wool carpet, this matters. You can find a link to our membership page HERE >>>>>>

National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA)
The NCCA is the UK’s recognised trade association for professional carpet cleaners.
Membership requires:
- Formal training
- Insurance verification
- Adherence to a code of practice
- Ongoing professional development
It’s a mark that the business is operating to recognised industry standards — not simply offering a service. Visit our NCCA listing HERE >>>>>

IICRC Certified Firm
JL Carpet Cleaning is recognised as an IICRC Certified Firm.
The IICRC ( Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification ) sets internationally recognised standards for cleaning and restoration. Firm certification means the business itself commits to those standards, maintains appropriate insurance and undertakes continued professional development.
Even though we are a small independent company, the standards we work to are the same as those expected of larger national operators. Visit the IICRC website HERE >>>>>
IICRC Commercial Cleaning Specialist
In addition to firm certification, I completed specialist technician certification focused on commercial carpet cleaning. This qualification covers:
- Large-scale commercial environments
- Commercial fibre types and construction
- Maintenance systems and scheduling
- Health & safety considerations
- Minimising business disruption
For offices, schools, landlords and facilities managers, this provides reassurance that commercial work is handled correctly — not approached in the same way as a domestic lounge carpet. Visit our commercial carpet cleaning page HERE >>>>>

Trading Standards Approved
Being Trading Standards approved provides an additional layer of consumer protection.
It demonstrates that the business has been independently vetted and agrees to operate transparently and fairly.
For customers, that means peace of mind.

Independent Carpet Inspection
Cleaning and inspection are two different disciplines. As a qualified carpet inspector and WoolSafe Inspector, I am trained to assess carpets independently in cases such as:
- Manufacturing concerns
- Cleaning disputes
- Fibre identification
- Technical fault analysis
An inspection involves documented findings and professional assessment — not guesswork. This qualification supports homeowners, landlords, retailers and insurers when a neutral, knowledgeable opinion is required. Our inspector listing can be found HERE >>>>>

Training & Teaching Within the Industry
Over time, investing in training naturally led to something else. The cleaning industry is niche and largely unregulated and standards vary widely. Rather than complain about that, I chose to be involved in raising them.
I now deliver formal professional training courses with my training partner and in partnership with an established industry supplier. These are structured courses attended by other professional cleaners who want to improve their knowledge and practical skills.
For me, this isn’t about ego — it’s about maintaining standards in a specialist trade.
If other professionals are prepared to invest their time and money to learn from the methods we use, it should give local customers confidence that their own carpets are in experienced hands. Read more about the training work HERE >>>>>
What This Means for You
All of the above translates into something simple:
- Your carpets are cleaned according to recognised standards
- Delicate fibres are treated correctly
- Commercial premises are handled professionally
- Advice is based on formal training, not guesswork
- You’re not hiring someone learning on your job
At JL Carpet Cleaning, we take what we do seriously — and we’ve invested the time, training and accreditation to back that up. If you’d like to discuss your carpets, upholstery or commercial premises, we’re always happy to offer straightforward advice.
