Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How do you work out your prices?

For carpet cleaning, prices are based on the Sq yds / Sq mt of the areas you want cleaning and how many steps you have. We have a minimum charge of £98 for the 1st area. The minimum price per area is £30, with discounts available for larger properties. Stain removal also starts from £100 for the 1st hour. For upholstery and leather, we have a price range per seat starting from £50. Rugs we have a price range per sq mt and a min charge of £115. (prices as of 2024)

Do you have insurance?

We are fully insured with £5 million public liability cover and “items worked upon” insurance for added protection

Are you fully trained?

We are fully advanced NCCA members, IICRC members & trading standards accredited. We work to the British standards institute PAS86 standard. We are also one of Shropshire’s only IICRC commercial cleaning technicians. We also regularly update our training and carry out training to new and experienced cleaners so you’ll be in the safest of hands

How often should I have my soft furnishings cleaned?

Most manufacturers recommend the wet extraction method as the best way to clean your carpets and upholstery, this should be done every 12 months to 18 months. Regular vacuuming with an upright cleaner is recommended weekly.

I’ve had other companies quote and it’s cheaper than yours, why is this?

Unfortunately, not all cleaning companies are the same, simply we all do things differently. We follow strict procedures for every job and as our reputation matters to us we do our utmost to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. Our prices are based on the workmanship and quality we put into every job and the customer service you receive. We have invested in training, and insurance and have some of the most powerful and up-to-date equipment within Shropshire. There are some companies who don’t bother with any of the above, they are simply as the saying goes “splash and dash” companies. If you have a problem after they’ve ruined your carpets, many won’t return back leaving you to pick up the bill. JL carpet cleaning quotes only one price (based on the home survey) There are no hidden charges or add-ons. Finally take a look at our reviews, as these represent our client’s feedback on our service.

What about stains?

carpets go through a rough time, so it’s pretty common to get the odd spot and stain on a carpet. Spots or unknown marks are usually where dirt has been attracted to something stick or residual, these are usually simple to remove. Staining where colour has been added to the carpet can be much harder to remove. It’s important to understand that whilst we have removed countless stains before there’s never a guarantee that the stain can be removed. Sometimes removal may cause bleaching of the carpet fibre. We always recommend not using under the sink products on stains as these can “lock in” the stain with a permanent effect. Check out our page on DIY stain removal.

My carpet after it was last cleaned become dirty quickly, why?

If you previously had a carpet cleaned, either using hire equipment or using another company and it has become dirty much quicker than expected this is down to residues from cleaning detergents being left in the carpet. The residues from cleaning weren’t rinsed out of the carpet thus attracting dirt. For more information on this check out our page on DIY carpet cleaning. JL carpet cleaning uses free rinsing Eco-friendly products, these break the bond between dirt and fibre allowing them to be rinsed away with water, leaving your carpet healthy, fresh and most importantly dirt free

What areas do you cover?

We offer our services to areas covering Telford & Wrekin, Shrewsbury and other surrounding areas in Shropshire. Please note some areas do incur travel charges outside of our local radius.

Quoting over the phone?

Though we appreciate you may need a quote over the phone, for comparison etc. It is very hard for us to give prices over the phone so please don’t be offended. It is sometimes possible to give you an estimate based on your room sizes. We prefer to come and give you a free home survey/quotation. As you’d appreciate all houses are different, some rooms may have heavy soiling, and some light. therefore our pricing reflects the work required to clean your carpets to the best of our abilities

We were obliged to call in the services of JL Carpet Cleaning when a relative bought a house where the previous owner had kept 18 house cats. They had to remove the carpets and laminate flooring from everywhere, clean up, apply super-strength enzymatic odour control agent, followed by sealing the floors twice and finally fogging the whole house. Their work improved the smell of the property considerably!

Jared and Jenny came and quoted us a few weeks ago for carpet cleaning in three rooms plus a settee and six upholstered dining chairs. We were happy with the quote and booked an appointment.

They arrived on time and were professional from arrival to departure. Everything was cleaned a lot quicker than we expected and they did an amazing job as we had one carpet that was quite badly stained but now looks like new. They used driers so everything was as good as dry when they left. Our dining room chairs which are pretty old look like new as well.

We can highly recommend JL Carpet Cleaning. Having not had a requirement in the past for this type of cleaning we were a bit dubious to how clean everything would be but they did a fantastic job. We contacted them as a relative had used them previously and we saw what a great job they did.

I had a 3 seater sofa and a recliner armchair cleaned. Both came out fantastic, the type of material means the cushions are fixed and cannot be removed, it was unclear if they would be able to remove most of the ink stains left by the kids as we were sure what kind of ink it was. 24 hours later and fully dry and the ink is gone, I was very happy with the service provided, the customer service was excellent and the dog found a new best friend! The job was carried out in a professional manner, with an initial visit to measure up and then a 9am arrival on the day arranged. Just Excellent.I have a very tricky Laura Ashley sofa which marks if you breathe on it!! Ive had it for 3 years and didn’t know what to do or if it could actually be cleaned.. but ultimately it looked a mess.The team were very upfront explaining that due to the type of fabric they may not get a perfect finish but the marks were so bad I had to take a leap of faith. Carpet 7 point process

1. Pre-Survey

This is carried out on all carpets that will be potentially cleaned. This is for fibre identification, to check for existing damage, potential problems and in some cases, cleaning limitations. The results will be fully discussed with the customer before any work is carried out

2. Pre-Clean Vacuuming

Around 80-85% of soiling in carpets is dry particulate dust/grit type soiling. The first important stage of all cleaning processes is to remove as much dry soiling as possible before wetting the carpet. All carpets are pre-vacuumed with a heavy-duty commercial grade vacuum cleaner.

3. Spotting & Pre-Spray

Some carpets may have spots and stains that need separate attention before the carpet is pre-sprayed. After these have been treated the carpet will be pre-sprayed with a product appropriate to the soiling and fibre type.

4. Agitation

Done by a machine, this is used to open the carpet pile and works the cleaning solution into the carpet fibres allowing it to work on the deeper down soils and preparing the carpet for rinse extraction. Agitation is a very important part of the cleaning process and commonly skipped by cleaning companies.

5. Rinse extraction

Solution is jetted into the carpet at over 110degrees C and over 250psi. The wand pass then extracts the solution and soiling and is lifted out by our truck mounted cleaning system* and wastewater is recovered back into our vehicle. This leaves your carpets smelling fresh and free from cleaning solutions. * dependant on access

6. Drying

Our extraction equipment will typically leave your carpets touch dry within a few hours, but as part of the service and for extra convenience, we use our air movers which will help dry the carpets fast if required.

7. Final groom and run through

Carpets are groomed if required and then we’ll run through the finishing details and ask you to check your happy and then its time to say goodbye

Our truck mounted cleaning system benefits

Q: What are the benefits or a truck-mounted cleaning system over a portable machine?

A: There is a huge difference between a portable machine using electric from a typical plug and a petrol-driven engine. We have our own power supply and bring our own filtered water supply to all jobs. It allows for such a variety of benefits. We have listed them below to explain in better detail:

1. Immense Heat

Our truck mount produces immense temperatures of over 230 degrees F. These temperatures kill bacteria, germs, and viruses in your soft furnishings and are simply not available from the average tap.

2. Vacuum Power

Our truck mount can extract nearly twice as much moisture from soft furnishings compared to most high-spec portables. This allows carpets to dry quicker and leave a superior result.

3. Rinsing Power

We have our own water supply on board, so there’s no need to use your water and fill buckets. Our truck mount can flush pollutants from your carpets & upholstery deeper and faster with the reassurance it is being fully extracted.

4. Waste Removal

In the unique times we are in, we can reassure you all waste from your soft furnishings is secured into our van mounted waste tank and disposed of off site. We do not tip contaminated waste or soiling down your toilets or around your property. All pollutants are exhausted outside at the machine and not back into your property.
